Stroke rehabilitation physiotherapy is a specialist area of neurological physiotherapy that helps individuals recover movement, balance, coordination, and physical function following a stroke. A stroke can affect different parts of the body depending on the area of the brain involved, often resulting in weakness, muscle stiffness, reduced balance, walking difficulties, or reduced independence.

Our rehabilitation programmes focus on retraining the brain and body through repetitive, task-specific exercises that encourage neuroplasticity the brain’s ability to adapt and form new neural pathways following injury.

Every rehabilitation programme is tailored to your individual needs and goals.

1. Comprehensive Neurological Assessment
We carry out a detailed assessment of your mobility, strength, balance, coordination, muscle tone, and functional abilities to develop an individual treatment plan.
2. Personalised Rehabilitation Programme
Using evidence-based neurological rehabilitation techniques, we design exercises that improve movement, strength, flexibility, endurance, and confidence.
3. Gait & Walking Retraining
We help improve walking patterns, balance, and mobility using task-specific exercises designed to make everyday movement safer and more efficient.
4. Balance & Functional Training

How soon after a stroke should physiotherapy begin?
Rehabilitation should begin as soon as it is medically safe. However, neurological physiotherapy can still provide significant benefits months or even years after a stroke.
Can I still improve years after my stroke?
Yes. Recovery doesn’t stop after the first few months. Many people continue to make meaningful improvements with targeted neurological rehabilitation.
Will my treatment programme be personalised?
Absolutely. Every stroke affects people differently, so your rehabilitation programme will be tailored to your specific symptoms, goals, and ability.
Can physiotherapy help improve my walking?
Yes. Improving walking ability, balance, and confidence is one of the main goals of stroke rehabilitation physiotherapy.
Do I need a referral from my GP or consultant?
No. You can book directly with our neurological physiotherapy team without a referral.
